The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has awarded the contract to manufacture seats for three of the 2022 FIFA World Cup venues to Coastal Qatar, a specialised Qatari manufacturing and construction company.
The Doha-based factory will produce 500 seats a day to be installed at Al Wakrah, Al Bayt – Al Khor City and Al Rayyan stadiums. Coastal Qatar will also maintain the 140,000 seats at the three stadiums.
The Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah stadiums will have 40,000 seats each in tournament phase and Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City will have a seating of 60,000. The first seat ‘Made in Qatar’ will be installed at Al Bayt Stadium in December 2017.
The factory in Industrial Area was inaugurated at an event on Wednesday in the presence of representatives of major stakeholders that will contribute to the successful delivery of the first tournament in the Middle East, including Qatar Rail, Ashghal, Lusail, Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatar Foundation.
State-of-the-art polymer injection moulding machinery will be used to manufacture the seating. The process is fully automated, reducing the risk of health and safety issues while improving efficiency.
Hassan al-Thawadi, SC secretary general, said: “We are very proud to announce that these seats for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be made in Qatar. In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, we are continuously working to contribute to the economic growth of the country in terms of manufacturing and a wide variety of other sectors.”
He added: “Creating an impact on Qatar’s economy was a key component in our bid to win the FIFA World Cup hosting rights. By facilitating local contractors and companies to take part in the construction of the infrastructure for the tournament, we are delivering one of our key legacy commitments and ensuring the benefits of the 2022 FIFA World Cup are felt across the country.”
Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, chairman of Coastal, said: “It is an honour to be selected to provide the seats for three of Qatar’s futuristic stadiums for 2022 with technology transfer from Forum Seating."
“The main principle of our company is to always promote the brand ‘Made in Qatar’ internationally and continue our commitment to the highest quality of our products.”
