Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has signed an agreement to upgrade the Raysut-Mughsail dual carriageway at an estimated cost of $91 million (RO35 million), according to Muscat Daily. The project aims to enhance connectivity, support economic growth, and improve access to key locations in Dhofar.
Additionally, MTCIT signed an agreement with Future Innovation Company to develop an AI-powered recruitment platform designed to streamline hiring, reduce sorting time, and improve transparency in competency selection.
The road project agreement was signed by H.E. Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at MTCIT, and Saeed bin Muslim al Kathiri, Chairman of Oman Construction Company. Dr. Mishaal bint Awad Mohammed al Sayari, CEO of Future Innovation Company, signed the recruitment platform agreement.
The signing ceremony was attended by H.H. Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and H.E. Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.
H.H. Sayyid Marwan emphasized the project’s role in Dhofar’s economic and social development, stating that it will strengthen Salalah Port and the Free Zone by improving logistics and attracting investment. The upgraded road is also expected to enhance access to popular tourist sites like Mughsail Beach, driving tourism growth.
The 33 km dual carriageway will include six overpasses, underpasses, animal crossings, and roundabouts, passing through key areas of Salalah and the wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut. It will also integrate with 18th November Road, extending 5.5 km to Salalah Centre and the Sarfait border crossing with Yemen, improving regional connectivity, road safety, and traffic flow.
H.E. Shammakhi highlighted that the project is a crucial step in easing congestion and enhancing infrastructure, particularly as it integrates the Mughsail Road and Bridge Project. This major investment is set to have a lasting impact on Dhofar’s economy by strengthening logistics, improving accessibility, and fostering tourism and business growth.
