The World Vegetable Center has joined forces with the Equity Group Foundation in a strategic partnership aimed at improving food and nutrition security, boosting climate resilience, and creating jobs across Eastern Africa. The memorandum of understanding, signed by Dr. Marco Wopereis, Director General of the World Vegetable Center, and Dr. James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Group Holdings Limited, seeks to revamp vegetable value chains in the region.
Dr. Gabriel Rugalema, Associate Director of the World Vegetable Center Africa, emphasized the partnership’s potential to generate income and employment, particularly for women and youth in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda. He noted that while vegetables are nutrient-rich, farmers also require knowledge and financial support to fully benefit.
This collaboration will provide the necessary resources to help farmers improve livelihoods, create jobs, and uplift communities. It aligns with key development goals such as poverty reduction, gender equality, sustainable economic growth, and climate change mitigation.
