The University of Doha for Science & Technology (UDST), in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, recently hosted the 5th Annual Simulation Symposium, according to The Peninsula. The event gathered educators, specialists, and innovators from Qatar and beyond to explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming healthcare simulation education.
The symposium highlighted cutting-edge AI developments and fostered collaboration on integrating these technologies into simulation-based learning and training. This aligns with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which promotes sustainable development, advances in education and healthcare, and economic diversification.
Dr. Rachid Benlamri, Vice-President of Academic Affairs at UDST, representing UDST President Dr. Salem Al Naemi, emphasized the event’s importance: “This symposium reinforces our commitment to enhancing the expertise of healthcare professionals and faculty. By facilitating knowledge exchange, we strengthen the practical skills of educators and professionals, equipping students with real-world learning opportunities.”
Dr. Fred Saleh, Acting Dean of the College of Health Sciences, noted that the symposium offered professionals and the community a glimpse into the future of AI-driven healthcare education, helping prepare them for the evolving industry landscape.
Keynote speaker Dr. Sola Bahous, Professor of Medicine and Dean of the School of Medicine at the Lebanese American University, delivered her address via videoconference, focusing on AI’s significance in healthcare, informed by her work on the International Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence. Lewis Chang, Head of Medical VR at HTC VIVE, also spoke about medical AI and VR product development, sharing insights from his award-winning innovations.
The event concluded with a call for increased collaboration to advance AI integration in healthcare simulation, reinforcing the goal of improving both healthcare education and patient outcomes.
