Census Highlights Urban-Rural Divide
Iraq’s population has reached nearly 45.5 million, according to preliminary results from the country’s first nationwide census since 1987. Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani announced the findings on Monday, revealing a total population of 45,407,895, with 70.3% living in urban areas and 29.7% in rural regions.
Key Demographics
The census recorded 7,898,588 households, with an average size of 5.3 individuals per household. Male residents account for 50.1% of the population (22,784,062), while females make up 49.8% (22,623,833).
Inclusive Coverage
This comprehensive census, the first in 37 years, covered all parts of Iraq, including the Kurdish region in the north, providing critical data on the nation’s demographic landscape.
