The 111-kilometer railway connecting Kuwait City to the Saudi border will be executed in three phases, according to a report by Saudi news outlet Sabq.
Phase One will focus on design work and is expected to be completed within a year. Phase Two will involve the appointment of investment partners, while Phase Three will cover the construction phase, estimated to take around 30 months, the report stated.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Turkish company Proyapi submitted the lowest bid for the project’s design consultancy contract.
The tender process was fast-tracked following meetings between Saudi and Kuwaiti stakeholders, who also discussed the potential addition of a rail line connecting Kuwait City to Riyadh. Kuwait’s segment of the GCC railway network is expected to be completed by late 2030.
