Oman experienced significant growth in air travel this year, with over 12 million passengers traveling on 90,846 flights during the first ten months of 2024, marking a 4.1% increase compared to 2023, according to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Passenger Traffic Overview
- By the end of October 2024, Oman’s airports handled 12,158,086 passengers, up from 11,677,931 passengers on 89,043 flights during the same period in 2023.
Muscat International Airport
- Passenger numbers reached 10,720,381, a 3.7% increase year-on-year.
- The airport managed 80,678 flights, up by 2.3%, with 73,040 international flights carrying 9,716,134 passengers and 7,638 domestic flights serving 1,004,247 passengers.
Salalah Airport
- Passenger traffic rose by 6.4%, reaching 1,321,622 passengers.
- Despite a 1.6% decline in total flights, international flights totaled 4,410, serving 576,743 passengers, while domestic flights accounted for 4,658 flights with 744,879 passengers.
Sohar and Duqm Airports
- Sohar Airport handled 65,427 passengers on 580 flights.
- Duqm Airport served 50,656 passengers on 520 flights.
Top Nationalities at Muscat International Airport
- Indian nationals topped the list with 153,396 passengers (74,034 inbound, 79,362 outbound).
- Omani nationals followed with 99,236 inbound and 50,723 outbound passengers.
- Pakistani nationals ranked third with a total of 51,172 passengers (25,893 inbound, 25,279 outbound).
This growth highlights Oman’s expanding role as a regional aviation hub, driven by increasing tourism and air connectivity.
