The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is advancing the D-Line Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) Transmission Main and Pumping Station project to irrigate farms and significantly reduce groundwater usage.
Expected to be completed by late 2025, the D-Line will pass through Rakhiya farms, addressing their irrigation needs and supporting sustainable water practices.
This initiative aligns with Ashghal’s strategy to maximize the use of treated wastewater, promoting efficient and sustainable water consumption in line with Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy. The project contributes to the country’s goal of reusing 100% of treated wastewater by 2030.
According to Ashghal, the project involves a 65km TSE transmission pipeline originating at Doha South Sewage Treatment Works (STW). The pipeline will run along Salwa Road, passing Rakhiya farms and nearby areas, and extend to the TSE Storage Lagoons, where surplus treated water will be stored.
Once operational, the project will deliver 22.5 million cubic meters of treated wastewater annually. This system will transfer treated water from Doha South STW in Nuaija to the Seasonal Storage Lagoons, balancing supply and demand for irrigation and minimizing groundwater consumption.
Additionally, the project includes the construction of a pumping station with a daily capacity of 120,000 cubic meters, facilitating the flow of treated wastewater from Doha South STW to the storage lagoons.
The initiative also covers mechanical, electrical, and equipment installations essential to the operation of the pumping station and transmission network.
