Qatar continues its forward momentum in development and construction, steadily advancing towards a promising future. The nation’s leadership is dedicated to empowering its people to contribute, achieve, and safeguard the country’s progress, preserving its identity, rights, and resources.
Guided by the principle that “Qatar deserves the best from its citizens,” as often emphasized by the leadership, the country presses forward with ambitious projects and visionary initiatives. This approach has positioned Qatar as a model of success and ambition, earning it top rankings in global indices and classifications.
Since the inception of Qatar National Vision 2030, significant strides have been made by reinvesting energy sector revenues into world-class infrastructure and institutions. The initial phase saw the establishment of key national entities, such as the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Qatar Airways, and Qatar Foundation (QF). In the subsequent phase, Qatar focused on developing essential infrastructure for future growth, including ports, airports, the metro, and an advanced highway network.
In 2024, Qatar ranked first in the region for key global governance indicators published by the World Bank. According to the National Planning Council, Qatar led in political stability and rule of law indicators. This achievement reflects the state’s dedication to enhancing governance and sustainable development.
Qatar climbed to 11th place globally in the 2024 World Competitiveness Book, up from 12th in the previous year, out of 67 countries. This book, issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, primarily assesses developed nations.
The competitiveness evaluation encompassed local data, business environment assessments, and feedback from industry leaders. Qatar excelled in economic performance (4th globally), government efficiency (7th), and business efficiency (11th). In infrastructure, Qatar ranked 33rd globally. Notable achievements included leading global rankings for unemployment rates, youth employment, and trade terms.
In government efficiency, Qatar ranked first for low consumption and income tax rates, and second in public finance. For business efficiency, the country secured the top spot for company board effectiveness and expatriate workforce quality, while ranking second for working hours. Additionally, Qatar led in energy infrastructure and internet user penetration.
Qatar placed 40th in the UNDP’s Human Development Report 2023-2024, with a per capita national income of $95,944. The country advanced significantly in the UN E-Government Development Index (EGDI), moving from 78th to 53rd globally out of 193 countries, and secured 5th place in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index.
Qatar aims to achieve comprehensive digital transformation by 2030, aspiring to be a leader in smart cities, e-government, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, such as AI and the metaverse. This initiative is expected to yield substantial economic growth and elevate Qatar’s global digital standing.
Qatar’s healthcare system has earned international recognition, with 19 public hospitals, 35 health centers, and a workforce of 29,960 by the end of 2023. The private sector contributed with 10 hospitals, 21 day-surgery centers, 417 health centers, and 21,417 professionals.
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received prestigious awards at the Global Forum on Person-Centered Care and the Saudi Arabia Patient Experience Awards. Qatar also won the 2024 Global Innovation Award for “Good Health and Well-being” and the Shanghai Global Sustainable Development Award.
The Ministry of Interior’s “Metrash2” app won the Arab Government Excellence Award for best smart government application. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) earned ten international safety awards from the British Safety Council for infrastructure projects.
Hamad International Airport (HIA) was named “World’s Best Airport 2024” by Skytrax, winning “Best Airport for Shopping” and “Best Airport in the Middle East” for consecutive years. Qatar Airways was recognized as “Best Airline of the Year” for the eighth time.
Since opening in 2014, HIA has expanded significantly, serving approximately 303 million passengers by 2023, and ranking among the world’s busiest airports.
