Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, engaged in discussions with officials from Madagascar, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic, as well as the Director of Agricultural Research at the African Union, to strengthen agricultural collaboration and promote food security across Africa.
The meetings were held during the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on Agricultural Development in Kampala, Uganda.
Enhancing Partnerships with African Nations
- Madagascar: Farouk met with Hajarison Francois, Madagascar’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting African nations under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives. Francois expressed interest in leveraging Egypt’s expertise in agriculture and livestock production, and Farouk extended an invitation for Francois to visit Egypt to witness its advancements firsthand.
- African Union Collaboration: Farouk held talks with Dr. Ahmed El-Meks, Director of Agricultural Research at the African Union, to explore collaborative opportunities in agricultural research and technology, leveraging Egypt’s agricultural and desert research centers.
- South Sudan: In discussions with Josephine Lagu, South Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Farouk emphasized Egypt’s willingness to provide technical support and training for South Sudanese farmers. The dialogue highlighted shared agricultural initiatives, particularly in water management and integrated agricultural communities.
- Central African Republic: Farouk and Guismala Hamza, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central African Republic, discussed the exchange of expertise, boosting agricultural investments, and training agricultural professionals to foster joint agricultural progress.
Egypt’s Role at the AU Summit
Farouk represented President Sisi at the summit, running from January 9 to 11, which centers on the African Comprehensive Agricultural Development Program. Egypt continues to position itself as a regional leader in advancing agricultural development and achieving food security across the continent.
