Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and Stellar Energy Chairman, Peter Gibson, discussed an upcoming agreement between Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity and Stellar Energy focused on electricity generation.
The discussion took place in London during Al-Sudani’s official visit to the United Kingdom. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting covered ongoing and planned electricity projects by Stellar Energy in Iraq, including mechanisms for supplying gas to operate combined-cycle power plants.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency, maximizing the use of associated gas, and eliminating gas flaring by using it as fuel for power plants. He highlighted the government’s broader energy strategy to support sustainable development in the sector.
Peter Gibson assured that Stellar Energy’s projects in Iraq are progressing on schedule and expressed the company’s readiness to assist with turbine inlet air chilling and other initiatives related to electricity generation.
The two leaders previously met in the United States last April, where they discussed reducing carbon emissions, diversifying energy projects, and maintaining project timelines.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani has stressed the importance of increasing the output of combined-cycle power plants as a key government priority, noting that the energy sector underpins the development of other industries. The government has pledged to provide additional support to companies operating in the power and energy sectors.
Stellar Energy’s chairman reiterated the company’s commitment to meeting its obligations in Iraq and its dedication to expanding electricity generation and improving power transmission to meet the country’s growing energy needs.
