The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCiT) held its 12th media briefing to outline its 2025 implementation plan and review key achievements from 2024. During the event, His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications & Information Technology, confirmed that the planned Muscat Metro will run from Sultan Haitham City to Ruwi, as reported by Times of Oman.
The proposed metro line will cover more than 50 km and feature 36 stations. A detailed feasibility study for the project is set to commence this year.
His Excellency also highlighted the significant contributions of the logistics, communications, and information technology (ICT) sectors, which added over 2 billion Omani Rials to the GDP, accounting for 8%. By the end of 2024, investments in these sectors reached 2.5 billion Omani Rials. Development project expenditures amounted to 989 million Omani Rials, with 93% allocated to road infrastructure. Notably, the number of change orders decreased by 42% compared to 2020.
Additionally, Minister Al Mawali noted Oman’s progress in global rankings related to transport, communications, and ICT. In 2024, Oman ranked 41st in the e-government development index, 45th in AI readiness, and 50th in network readiness. The Sultanate also achieved first-tier status in the global cybersecurity index and ranked 4th globally for aviation incident investigations.
