Iraq has awarded multiple projects over the past year to develop new cities, aiming to deliver nearly one million homes and address the country’s post-war housing shortage, Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani announced, according to Zawya Projects.
Speaking at an international fair in Baghdad on Saturday, Sudani revealed that Iraq has attracted approximately $60 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) over the past year, covering housing and other sectors.
“Iraq is on the brink of its largest-ever housing construction drive… Several residential projects have already been launched, with more to follow soon. These developments will provide nearly one million new homes,” Sudani stated.
In 2024, Iraq approved five major projects to establish new cities in Baghdad and other regions. The largest, Ali Al-Wardi City, will feature around 120,000 housing units and accommodate at least 700,000 residents.
