The Iraqi government is set to receive 10-15% of residential units in upcoming city developments, according to the official daily Alsabah. Developers involved in new city projects will be required to allocate this percentage of housing to the government for distribution to citizens.
Citing Hamid Abdul Hamad, director of the town section at the Construction and Housing Ministry, the report outlined that 21 specific categories of citizens will qualify for free housing. These include widows, pensioners, families of deceased soldiers and police officers, and other eligible individuals.
“The new city projects will be developed by private firms, with the state receiving 10-15% of the units in each project,” Hamad stated.
Over the past few months, Iraq has awarded several new city projects and plans to launch nearly 15 more in the near future. Officials have clarified that these projects will operate on an investment basis, meaning developers will cover the construction costs and sell the homes upon completion.
