In 2024, Sultan Qaboos, Khasab, and Salalah ports welcomed approximately 114 cruise ships, bringing in more than 416,000 tourists.
Speaking on the promotion of maritime tourism, Muhanna bin Musa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, highlighted that the ministry signed a concession agreement last year with Asyad Ports to develop, manage, and operate Suwaiq Port. This agreement seeks to expand and modernize the port, allowing it to accommodate larger vessels and handle diverse cargo types to meet rising demand.
Additionally, the expansion and development of Salalah Port’s container terminal have been completed, boosting its capacity to 6.5 million TEUs. The project involved upgrading existing berths and expanding storage yards to handle larger container ships—those exceeding 366 meters in length and carrying over 14,500 containers—ensuring enhanced productivity and faster clearance.
Furthermore, an agreement has been signed to invest in marine services and crew change operations at Sultan Qaboos Port, introducing commercial activities alongside its primary role as a tourist destination. These developments are expected to position the port as a key hub for both commercial and tourist vessels, supported by ongoing collaborations with Asyad and Omran groups.
