Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq’s future must not be tied solely to oil revenues, pointing instead to the country’s strategic geographic location as a vital global trade corridor.
During a meeting with tribal sheikhs and prominent figures from across the country at the Baghdad guesthouse of Rahim Majeesar Al-Baydani, the Prime Minister spoke of Iraq’s resilience and emerging strength. The remarks were shared in a statement from the PM’s Media Office and reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
“What we have today is the result of great sacrifices and the steadfast positions of our tribes—something we will never forget,” Al-Sudani said. “Iraq is strong, capable, and moving forward, as acknowledged by both regional and international institutions.”
He described Iraq’s role in the region as “leading,” noting that reconstruction and development projects from Basra to Nineveh are progressing at an unprecedented scale. The government, he stressed, places the interests of the Iraqi people above any personal or political agenda.
Highlighting Iraq’s untapped potential, Al-Sudani reiterated:
“We cannot depend solely on oil. Iraq holds great promise in agriculture, industry, and tourism. Our strategic location makes us a natural corridor for global trade. That’s the foundation of our Development Road project.”
He added that round-the-clock work is ongoing to meet development commitments, including key efforts to deliver natural gas to power stations.
The Prime Minister also addressed recent political developments:
“There is genuine political will to implement reform, and we’ve made major strides in under two and a half years. Iraq’s stability has been preserved thanks to wise, responsible leadership that has kept us out of regional conflicts—despite pressure from voices pushing for war. The interests of Iraq and its people are non-negotiable.”
He called on religious leaders, tribal elders, and national figures to promote unity, especially with upcoming elections on the horizon.
“There are those who benefit from division, crisis, and conspiracy,” he warned. “But we must stay vigilant. Iraq’s future is promising—driven by its people, resources, and a clear, responsible vision for governance.”
