Oman has signed a major deal with Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group to establish a $200 million wind turbine manufacturing plant in Duqm, a key industrial hub along global shipping routes.
Duqm has already seen over $15 billion in investment across various strategic projects, including a 230,000 bpd oil refinery, crude storage, a dry dock, free zone, and deep-sea port.
The new facility comes as Oman intensifies its shift toward renewable energy, aligning with its long-term vision for a cleaner environment.
“This wind turbine plant will play a central role in achieving our 20-year clean energy strategy,” said Salim Al Oufi, Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals. “Our top priority is ensuring access to affordable clean energy.”
Expected to be operational by August next year, the plant will have the capacity to produce wind turbines generating up to 1,000 megawatts annually—enough to power approximately 750,000 homes.
This follows Oman’s growing green energy drive, including two green hydrogen agreements worth $11 billion signed last year with a consortium led by EDF, Actis, and Fortescue to develop projects in Dhofar, southern Oman.
