Assistant Under-Secretary for Agricultural Affairs and fisheries at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment H E Sheikh Dr Falih bin Nasser Al Thani said that the State of Qatar has made great and successful strides towards achieving food security, as it has sufficient food stocks for a long time, and has developed local production through which it has achieved self-sufficiency in some fresh food products that meet the needs of consumers in the local market. In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the founding conference of the Global Alliance for Drylands, Sheikh Dr Falih bin Nasser Al Thani said that Qatar has been self-sufficient for some agricultural products while exporting others, especially with regards to materials of comparative advantage such as dates and others. He stressed that the demand for fresh products in the local market is met in some products by nearly 70 percent, while the government in cooperation with the private sector is working to achieve self-sufficiency of imported fresh materials, through several agricultural projects, which will begin producing agrifood products during this month in Al Mazroua, Al Khor, Al Dhakheerah and Al Wakrah.
