The tourism industry is a major source of revenue for Lebanon. Summer 2017 was a great season for the hospitality industry and the tourism sector since the number of tourists increased since last year.
In fact, hotel occupancy in Lebanon increased by 25%! This positive change has affected luxury hotels tremendously as the hotel occupancy in 5 stars hotels in Beirut was up to 80% this summer.
This increase is due to the thousands of tourists that came to Lebanon to spend their summer vacations. In July, Beirut – Rafic Hariri International Airport broke its own record. 975,000 people traveled to and from Beirut Airport!
However, this number kept growing. The airport has seen an increase of 17% in the number of passengers in August 2017 compared to the same month last year. The number has reached to 1,067,471 passengers.
This growth is likely to last in September and October according to the forecast of Colliers International. The latter is a real estate services company that also studies markets in all over the world.
According to its forecast of the MENA region, Beirut and Aqaba, a city in Jordan, are the leading touristic cities from August until October 2017.
