Kuwait on Tuesday launched three medical centers to meet the healthcare needs of displaced Iraqis languishing in camps scattered across the war-torn nation's Dohuk province.
Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Dr. Omar Al-Kanderi said that his country has stepped up efforts to support Iraq, part of an aid campaign delivered by Kuwait's Red Crescent Society (KRCS).
On the aid, he said that it would remain persistent and that Kuwait is committed to remedy the dearth of medical supplies in Iraq's autonomous region of Kurdistan.
Moreover, Al-Kanderi noted that medical support represents the bulk of Kuwait aid disseminated to Iraq, citing numerous healthcare projects that are in the works.
Meanwhile, Dohuk province's health director Dr. Nizar Ahmad told KUNA that Iraq is thankful for Kuwait's support and that the region is in dire need of medical aid. The Iraqi official also pointed out that the aid will be instrumental in propping up Iraqi Kurdistan's ailing healthcare sector.
Copious amounts of Kuwaiti aid has poured into the autonomous region as it copes with an influx of displaced people.
