Italy and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation UNIDO have launched a project with funding to the tune of 500,000 euros for the development of the agrifood sector in Lebanon and creation of employment opportunities for young people. The initiative has been announced by the Italian ambassador in Beirut, Massimo Marotti, and UNIDO representative in Lebanon Cristiano Pasini.
"At a time when unemployment is on the rise, the agri-food sector has the potential to create jobs and economic opportunities for young men and women," Pasini said.
The UN agency has been working to boost the sector in Lebanon with support from Italy since 2011. The new project contemplates the provision of technical support and professional training in partnership with the Lebanese ministry for industry for small and medium-sized enterprises in the dairy products and beekeeping sectors in particular.
