Construction companies in the private sector have implemented projects worth EGP 39.8bn in 2015, an increase of 27.1% compared to the previous year, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ (CAPMAS) annual statistics bulletin.
In 2014, the value of construction projects implemented by the private sector amounted to EGP 31.3bn.
CAPMAS attributed the increase in value to projects that have worked on updating infrastructure, especially those that relate to electricity, sewage, and education.
According to the report, the value of projects on residential buildings implemented by the private sector reached EGP 8.9bn in 2015, compared to EGP 7.8bn in 2014, an increase of 14.5%.
The value of projects implemented in industrial complexes reached EGP 1.3bn in 2015, versus EGP 1.4bn in 2014, a decrease of 0.9%. In contrast, the total value of projects implemented on educational premises reached EGP 933m in 2015, compared to EGP 215m in 2014, a striking increase of 334.1%.
Projects on water stations and networks reached a value of EGP 648m in 2015, compared to EGP 569m in 2014, an increase of 13.9%.
The total value of projects on electricity stations and networks reached EGP 5.5bn in 2015, compared to last year’s EGP 1.7bn, an increase of 231.2%.
Projects on sewage plants and sewer systems increased in value to EGP 1.8bn in 2015, compared to the EGP 0.8bn spent in 2014, an increase of 134.1%.
