The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MoPWT) has launched the beginning of the construction of the second part of the second phase of Port of Tripoli’s extension.
The second phase includes the restoration of the port’s entire infrastructure.
The scope of works of this phase includes the expansion of the container storage area from 24,000 square meters (m2) to 70,000 m2.
The value of the expansion is around eight million dollars.
The contractor is local firm Mouawad Edde, which was also responsible for the execution of the initial part of the second phase.
The construction is funded by the Port Authority. The Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will oversee implementation.
The MoPWT is in negotiations with the Islamic Development Bank and The World Bank to fund the remaining parts of the second phase, which will cost $41 million.
Ahmad Tamer, the port’s Director General, said: “At the end of the second phase, the port will be connected to the surrounding infrastructure, including the railway, roads, and bridges.”
