Following a fantastic launch in Doha last September, the Arjaan Rotana opened its doors last Monday, to welcome some of the UAE’s top architects, interior designers, fit-out specialists and furniture manufacturers, ready to discuss latest developments and upcoming trends in the region’s Interior Design and Architecture industry.
Day one opened with an invigorating presentation by the ever polished Steven Velegrinis of eminent design firm Perkins+Wills, who explored the growing synergy between external design and indoor spaces using a backdrop of the much discussed Mall of the World project. “Nowadays, people want to be connected to the outdoors more and more, even when they are indoors”.
Following an equally intriguing presentation by fellow Perkins+Will representative, Diane Thorsen, the event was proud to welcome Eng. Kamal Azayem from Dubai Municipality to the stage, to enlighten the audience on the recent green building codes/ regulations, with a particular focus on interiors and indoor air quality.
A real highlight of the show was a mesmerizing display from Karl Johan Bertilsson, VP of Sales for NCS Color AB (representing Hempel Paints), centered around the importance of color in decision making. “Karl’s presentation was fantastic – I could have listened to him for hours” commented conference chairman, Allen Jay Holland of KEO Consultants, who also brought day one to a close.
Day two began with an impressive collaborative session by UAE design giants LW Design Group; Managing Director, Isabel Pintado and Senior Interior Designer, Olivia Watt showcasing their award winning work on the Vida Hotel, Downtown (formerly the Qamardeen) for Emaar.
The event also included stand out presentations by Martin Fryzelka of Preciosa Lighting, Gurtake Singh of AHR and BIM Manager Mohamed Al Sharkawy of RMJM architects.
“The conference was a great place to develop my knowledge on design, as well as enhance our (company’s) business network” noted one member of the delegation.
