Oman has awarded tenders worth RO1.36 billion ($3.53 billion) for several key infrastructure projects in the sultanate besides airport upgrade work, said a report.
The first half of 2014 saw tenders worth RO616 million ($1.6 billion) being floated for road construction work in residential and industrial areas, while RO744 million ($1.9 billion) tenders were awarded in the second half, reported the Oman Observer.
Road projects were the most important projects assigned during the year, it added.
The major ones included the second phase of the dual Ibri-Yanqul road, Al Hoqain-Meli road in Al Batina South Governorate, rehabilitation of the Salan roundabout in Sohar besides the second phase of dual Nizwa-Ibri road project, Jibreen-Ibri road project in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, dual Adam-Thamrait road project and the dual Barka-Nakhl road project in the Al Batina South Governorate.
The country's tender board also approved the technical bids for the projects of the dual road from Raysut roundabout to the Salalah Port, Dhofar Governorate, and the dual Ibri-Al Direez-Maskan project.
A number of developing projects were also approved by the board such as levelling sites and construction of roads for the new residential area in Liwa at Al Batina North Governorate and the pre-rehabilitation of the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, said the report.
The year also witnessed the awarding of tenders for the third phase of the Sohar Airport project, which included the travelers’ terminal in addition to other building and services, it added.
