The National Water Company (NWC) has completed the construction of the largest sewage treatment plant in the Kingdom.
The plant in Riyadh will start operations at the end of November, with the NWC running the plant on a trial basis to ensure its effectiveness. The tertiary treatment of sewage is estimated at more than SR400 million, with a capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day, rising at peak times to 640,000 cubic meters per day. The plant will receive sewage from all Riyadh districts and treat it using high technical standards.
The project is a part of NWC’s strategy to improve the sustainable environmental management of renewable energy. This project is the sixth environmental treatment plant for sewage in Riyadh.
Earlier, the NWC had announced the completion of the first phase of the transmission lines of 25 km to deliver sewage to the station with amounts of up to 150,000 cubic meters per day.
The NWC is currently working on the implementation of the second phase of the transmission lines estimated at more than SR700 million, with a total length 38 km to transfer more than 250,000 cubic meters of waste water per day to the station to be processed. So far, the NWC has completed 60 percent of these lines. The company said in a statement that the state-of-the-art station is part of the ecofriendly solutions for the treatment of waste water and will reduce the total overall age-design costs of the plant.
The plant will also reduce the content of chemical materials in the treated water.
