Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, said during the weekend that his country needs € 9.2 billion to increase the electricity production in the next five years and over € 540 million in fuel for generators.
In a speech broadcast on state television, the head of state recapped electrical problems in recent years and listed the needs in order to modernize the network of wires that do not meet the international requirements for lack of maintenance.
The electric cut recorded last week was the longest in recent years, stressing that investments in power generation have been insufficient given the increase in population and economic issues affecting the country since the Arab Spring in 2011.
