Qatar is looking to recycle and reuse over 30 million tons of waste stored at various parts of the country.
According to a report in The Peninsula, Qatar Authority for Standards and Specifications at the Ministry of Environment has consulted with officials and private agencies over the possibility of reusing rubble, bricks, stones and concrete blocks for new projects.
Waste could be effectively recycled and re-used for new projects, including buildings, road constructions and making hollow bricks.
The report said quality tests of samples of construction waste have proved it can be reused and was fit for withstanding Qatar’s extreme weather.
Efficiency of the used materials will be monitored short-, medium- and long-term. After quality tests, used materials will be submitted to clear quality standards.
The meeting discussed potential sites for the recycling of waste and guidelines for using recycled materials.
