Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) wants to develop the downtown area of the Riyadh city into a historical, administrative, economic and culture center.
The project would preserve the urban and cultural heritage, existing business activities while it would increase job opportunities, and diversify residential patterns to achieve urban and demographic balancing. It also envisages expanding open spaces, strengthening urban security besides improving roads and utilities in the area.
A public company for development will be established to take care of the administration and development of the project. It will also identify the priorities for development and prepare a detailed plan of action. The plan focuses on identifying areas for residential development and various residential units to accommodate a large number of residents. The ADA and the Ministry of Housing are coordinating to implement residential projects in the downtown area, Al-Riyadh daily reported.
An integrated plan for transport development has been put in place.
The road surrounding the area would be restructured to serve as a ring road and new interior roads will be constructed. Intersections, pedestrian walkways and car parks will also be refurbished, according to the new plan.
The plan also includes tracks for mass transport system such as metro and bus routes and their stations.
