The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has allocated SR750 million ($200 million) a year to ensure imported food meets the highest international standards.
During a workshop at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Yaseen Ahmad Addass, director of SFDA's food registration administration, said all imported food has to undergo three levels of checks.
He said the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has unified food and drug-control laws that aim to develop the sector in each of the member countries.
