The Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs issued 52 new bylaws to regulate food processing facilities.
The bylaws cover food safety at food factories, restaurants, kitchens, cafeterias, and shops that sell fish, meat, vegetables and fruits.
The new bylaws will also regulate barber shops and laundries. The ministry attempts to update its bylaws regularly to include changes in food production and distribution.
The mechanisms to ensure food safety feature scientific programs, executive measures and awareness activities that focus on updates and changes in business and investments related to public health and food safety.
These efforts stems from the ministry's emphasis on enhancing awareness to protect the health of the public, a statement from the ministry said.
These measures start with compliance with requirements for granting licenses to businesses that operate in the field of public health and food safety, and up to the last step that involves applying regulations and procedures against any violating business.
