The Riyadh Development Authority has worked out a massive plan for the development of the city's central business district (CBD) into a major economic, cultural and administrative center. Riyadh Gov. Prince Khaled bin Bandar presented the plan to Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Salman.
A documentary on the new Riyadh development plan was also screened during the function attended by Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, and Prince Muhammad bin Salman, head of the crown prince's court.
Prince Khaled commended the role played by Prince Salman for the development of Riyadh when he was governor of the region. "The new project will be implemented with the support of the private sector," he said.
The project includes new residential districts, recreation centers, parks, green open areas for people to take rest and modern transport systems, the governor said. The final plan will be presented to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah after incorporating Prince Salman's instructions.
Meanwhile, seven international consortiums have presented the technical and financial plans to the High Commission for Riyadh Development (HCRD) for the execution, operation and maintenance of a bus network in the capital.
These are: The Dela consortium, which includes a firm that transports pilgrims; American MV Inc.; the Riyadh-based Mobily consortium; the Dev-RATP of France; Saudi Sief-Joursal of engineers and contractors; Turkish Gursel Turizm Tasimacilik and the UK based National Express.
The HCRD stated it had received the tenders and started examining them in collaboration with international experts and advisers.
They will be presented to the supervising committee for implementation under Prince Khaled, head of the High Commission, who will choose the consortium for execution.
