Figures released by the Hariri International Airport (HIA) show that the number of airport passengers (arrivals, departures, transit) totaled 2,402,685 in the first five months of 2013, constituting an increase of 8.7% from the same period last year.
The total number of arriving passengers grew by 4.4% year-on-year to 1,127,930 in the first five months of 2013, compared to an annual rise of 14.6% in the same period of 2012 and a drop of 1% year-on-year in the first five months of 2011.
Also, the number of departing passengers rose by 14.8% year-on-year to 1,267,634 in the first five months of 2013, relative to an annual increase of 16.8% in the same period of 2012 and a decline of 1.9% year-on-year in the first five months of 2011.
In parallel, the airport's aircraft movements dropped by 2.6% to 24,336 take-offs and landings in the first five months of 2013, compared to an annual rise of 2.9% in the same period of 2012 and a drop of 2.3% year-on-year in the first five months of 2011. The HIA processed 42,881.9 metric tons of cargo in the first five months of 2013 that consisted of 42,560.3 tons of freight and 321.6 tons of mail.
