Organized by International Fairs & Promotions (IFP) Iraq, Iraq Higher Education 2013 will be held from April 11 to 13, 2013, at Saad Palace Conference Center in Erbil.
While embarking on a countrywide path of furthering socioeconomic development, Iraq realizes the growing importance of strategically investing in its Human Capital. In light of this, promoting higher education is the most crucial means in ensuring the success of such a development initiative.
Keen on developing the academic level in Iraq, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research sends thousands of Iraqi scholars to study in international universities each year. The ministry takes care of the entire procedure, from sending the students abroad to providing all their requirements. In 2009, the ministry launched an initiative to send 50,000 Iraqi students to the US, UK, Canada and Australia on scholarship over the duration of 5 years. Later on, the ministry included more countries in the initiative program, giving the students even more options to choose from.
For this purpose, Iraq Higher Education 2013 is launching its first edition to connect the region's academics and students with the world.
Moreover, 19 state and state-recognized private higher education institutions are currently operating in KRG, while the total number of students at higher education institutes in KRG is estimated at 94,700.
“KRG will find no better investment than education of the region’s generations. No capital investment can, in the long run, match the returns that will be achieved from an educated population capable of competing in both the local and global economy,” said Dr. Ali Saeed, Minster of Higher Education, KRG.
Iraq Higher Education 2013 is expected to act as a liaison between local and foreign higher education institutions; providing an excellent networking venue for exchanging knowledge, forging solid alliances, and creating a cooperative environment where ample opportunities exist for those seeking higher education abroad. Attendees will be able to collect relevant information from representatives of the participating institutions, and find out more about study opportunities and scholarship programs through Study Abroad Presentations.
This first of its kind event will surely attract senior officials, administrators and faculty members, as well as a large number of students and their parents from all around Iraq.
