Retaj Marketing and Project Management, a Qatar-based company, is seeking to build 15 to 20 hotels in Qatar within the forthcoming 6 years, a senior manager told Zawya.
"The company is planning to build 2-3 hotels a year, each comprise of 120-180 rooms, adding 3,800 rooms to the current 1,100 rooms it had till mid-2012," said Mohammad Bin Jawhar Al Mohammad, managing director and the vice chairman, Retaj Marketing and Project Management.
A report by the Qatari General Authority for Tourism showed that the government is planning to invest around USD 20 billion to develop its tourism infrastructure as part of the plan to host the Word Cup in 2022. Qatar is seeking to provide 30,000 hotel rooms in 2013 compared to 15,500 in 2011, and to add 5,000 new rooms each year reaching 75,000 hotel rooms by 2022.
"The company will open a four-star hotel project, Retaj Al Ghanem Hotel, within two months, constructed over an area of 2,164 square meters and will contain 216 rooms, the project has taken three years to complete at a cost exceeding QAR 180 million," said Bin Jawhar.
"Retaj's market share currently accounts for 16% of the Qatari market, with company assets to reach around QAR 1.5 billion within the next 5 to 7 years," said Al Jawhar.
"One of the prerequisites essential to host the World Cup Championship is to provide different categories of hotels to accomodate the large number of visitors to Qatar," said Nasir Al Ejly, the regional development director at Qatari properties adviser company DTZ.
