Rafic Hariri International Airport (RHIA) activity registered a 5.5% yo-y growth in the total number of passengers reaching 5.96M during 2012, according to figures released by RHIA. The airline traffic was highly affected by the regional and local instabilities in 2012.
However, passengers’ activity increased significantly in the summer season and end of year holidays, mainly driven by the arrivals of Lebanese emigrants. Total arrivals rose by 2.83% comparing to 2011 to reach 2.89M, while total departures added 8.53% y-o-y to 3.02M. The number of tourists in transit fell 18.74% by the end of 2012.
On a monthly basis, airport passengers number at RHIA reached 0.5M in December 2012 only, 11.15% higher than December 2011. Arrivals and Departures improved by 1.34% and 25.82% respectively meanwhile transit travelers dropped by 72.1% from last year to 47,306 tourists.
