The tourism sector generated $3.5 billion (around JD2.5 billion) in 2012, a 15.3 per cent increase from $3 billion in 2011, according to a statement issued by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).
The CBJ attributed the rise to an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country, especially from Arab countries. Income generated by visitors from the Gulf went up by 15.7 per cent and by 47.1 per cent from other Arab countries.
