The Haya Water is planning to invest a whopping RO1 billion ($2.6 billion) in the next six years, until 2018, to implement various sewage projects in the country.
So far, the company has invested RO700 million for building various projects, which include sewage treatment plants, pipelines and other facilities.
As of now, 20 per cent or 40,000 houses have been connected to the sewage network and the company is targeting to connect 80 per cent or 200,000 houses or commercial properties in Muscat when the project is fully ready by 2018, said Hussain Hassan Ali AbdulHussain, chief executive of Haya Water.
He was speaking at the Oman Investment Forum.He said as many as 12 projects are under implementation now, which include one each sewage treatment plant in Seeb and Darsait, nine pipeline network projects and other small projects.
Hussain said his company has built 550km of sewerage network and 250km of pipelines for treated water. This will be increased to 4,000km of sewerage network and 2,000km of treated water network when the project completes in 2018.
The Haya Water chief also said that his company is planning to supply treated water for 400 farmers in Barka, who are facing problem due to salinated water entering farms.
