The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed an agreement with the Amman-Asia Company for Electric Power to implement an electricity-generation project at a cost of $780 million with a total generating capacity of 580 megawatts.
Energy Minister Alaa Batayneh, who signed the agreement, said the first phase of the project is expected to be operational by February 2014, stressing the importance of the project, which will be established in east Amman, in enabling the country to cope with the growing demand for electricity.
