Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Balghunaim, said that per capita food level in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia surpasses the global level. In a preface of a book entitled "Food Budgets of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" issued by the Ministry's Agency for Agricultural Research and Development and reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Dr. Balghunaim highlighted the importance of food budgets by giving indications of the nutritional levels of citizens and how they get their daily food needs for survival and enhance their activities and well-being, noting that these indicators contribute to the process of agricultural planning, agricultural policy and food security.
Average per capita consumed calories rose by 9.4%
The Minister disclosed the high daily average per capita in the Kingdom of energy "calories" that rose by 9.4% during the period 2008 – 2010 compared to 1996 – 1998 which amounted to an average of 3176.4 calories versus 2, 904.
He also indicated that daily protein in-take per capita in the Kingdom increased by 6.3% from about 77.5 grams to about 82.4 grams, as the average fat per capita increased 22.5%, from 75 grams to 91.9 grams.
