The Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) signed a $7 million grant agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to build a state-of-the-art museum of Petra antiquities. Under the agreement, the Japanese government will fund building a museum for antiquities outside the Petra Archaeological Park. The planned museum will be home for all antiquities of the Nabataean civilization. It will also be built according to the latest international standards.
The grant agreement was signed by Commissioner of PDTRA Mohammed Abul Ghanam and (JICA) representative Miyoshi Hiroki.
Abul Ghanam reiterated the authority's keenness to establish the museum to befit the remarkable position of Petra at the international level. The museum, he added, is hoped to encourage tourists spend more time in the ancient city, which is one of the New Seven World Wonders.
JICA representative reiterated the agency's keenness to cooperate with the PDTRA, adding that the grant agreement stemmed from the agency's interest in preserving the civilization and humanitarian heritage of the Kingdom.
