Jordan Industrial Estate Corporation (JIEC) signed a JD5 million contract with a Lebanese investor to set up a plastic manufacturing factory at Al Muwaqqar Industrial Estate east of Amman. The new project will create about 50 jobs. JIEC Director Loay Sahweil said that the Muwaqqar industrial city is home to 13 investment projects, with more than JD190 million in investments combined. The estate, he added, has created more than 1,500 jobs so far.
The new investment is a qualitative add to the recently-inaugurated city, which has various industrial investments, he said, affirming that it also shows the strength and attractiveness of the investment climate in the Kingdom.
According to the corporation's figures, the volume of investments at the Kingdom's industrial estates had reached $2.5 billion in the first half of 2012, with exports exceeding $1 billion. The industrial cities have so far generated more than 33,000 jobs.
