Experts have predicted Qatar will need to recruit 1.5 million people over the next few years, as the Gulf country prepares to organise itself for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The country plans to complete, in time for the global football event, the construction of 174 hotels, with over 74,000 hotel rooms, 12 stadia, seating over half a million people, the $4bn Qatar-Bahrain causeway, and building and expanding roads with a total cost of more than $20bn.
These projects alone are expected to create around one million job opportunities, adding to employment opportunities to be created in other sectors.
The increase in job opportunities is the result of Qatar’s construction of mega projects, according to economic expert, Rabia al-Mahdi.
“Qatar began implementing infrastructure projects and therefore will continue to create more jobs,” al-Mahdi was quoted as saying by Dubai-based Al Arabiya TV channel.
Most of employment opportunities will be in the private sector, al-Mahdi said,adding that it would particularly target construction worker, engineers, operators of machinery used in construction sites, as well as administrators.
