The latest data released by the Rafic Hariri International Airport showed that during the first six months of 2012, activity is still managing to report double-digit increases as revealed by the following indicators: the number of aircrafts and passengers using the airport and the tonnage of merchandise passing through it.
In details, the number of aircrafts passing through the airport went up by 3.4% year-on-year to reach a total of 30,594 airplanes during the first six months of 2012, of which 15,301 are those that landed during the aforementioned period of 2012 (+3.4% year-on-year), and 15,293 those that departed (+ 3.3% year-on-year). With regards to the number of passengers, excluding the transiting ones, it increased by 13.7% annually to reach a total of 2,729,210 during the first six months of 2012 with the arriving ones amounting to 1,396,653 passengers (+11.9% year-on-year) and the departing ones reaching 1,332,557 passengers (+15.6%). When including the transiting ones (29,092 passengers), the total number would have risen by 13.5% annually to reach a total of 2,758,302 passengers during the first six months of 2012.4
As to the freight at the airport, the unloaded merchandise attained 22,047 thousand tons, rising by 9.8% from the first half o f 2011. As to the loaded merchandise, it stood at 15,651 thousand tons, up by 11% year-on-year.
