President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) Prince Sultan bin Salman and new Riyadh Mayor Abdullah Al-Muqbil discussed future plans for tourism and national projects at a reception in Riyadh.
The prince and the mayor also discussed areas of cooperation between the two sides, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The prince congratulated Al-Muqbil on his appointment. Royal orders were issued relieving Prince Abdul Aziz bin Ayyaf of his duties as mayor and replacing him with Al-Muqbil on June 24.
Prince Sultan commended Al-Muqbil's services to the SCTA when the latter served as member of the commission's board of directors until two years ago.
The prince also hoped the new mayor would support SCTA's activities in his capacity as mayor, who will also be a member of the province's tourism promotion council.
The prince also wished success for the huge heritage and tourism projects being undertaken in Riyadh in collaboration between the SCTA and the municipality.
Al-Muqbil affirmed his support for heritage projects being undertaken under the umbrella of the tourism promotion council.
King Abdul Aziz Historic Center, the National Museum, Al-Thumama Park, Prince Salman Oasis for Science and Al- Musmak Museum are some of major tourist and heritage centers in Riyadh.
Al-Turaif District in Al-Diriyah, listed in the UNESCO's world heritage sites, is situated in the city's suburbs.
It is a historic oasis located on the banks of Wadi Hanifa that has attracted urban settlements since time immemorial. Al-Turaif district was the first capital of the Saudi Kingdom.
The district includes the remains of many palaces and an urban ensemble built on the edges of the Al-Diriyah oasis. It bears witness to the Najdi architectural style, which is specific to the center of the Arabian Peninsula.
