The construction of Al Jebel al Akhdar Resort Hotel at Hail Misbhat, the highest point in Jebel Akhdar is firmly on track and is expected to be ready by December 2013.Eng Wael bin Ahmed al Lawati, CEO of Omran said, "Through careful and considered approach, we have worked with the contractors and designers to ensure that every essence of Jebel Akhdar's majestic beauty is incorporated into the resort hotel. The interiors of the hotel will reflect the rich Omani architecture while its exterior will be adorned with mountain rock to accentuate the building's facade."
Since the groundbreaking ceremony in December 2011, the project has progressed steadily with over 300 employees working on building the substructure and superstructure of the 86-room luxury resort, he added.
Earlier this year, the Tender Board awarded Dawood Contracting the resort hotel's construction contract. Operated by Singapore-based hotel chain Alila, the hotel resort with a spa will also have a cliff-side restaurant and pool on top of a large mountain, 2000m above sea level.
"We regularly consider new projects and opportunities that will support the long-term success of Oman's tourism sector. Al Jebel Al Akhdar Resort Hotel is a prime example of the type of project that will attract visitors to come and explore the rich culture and beauty the Hajar mountain range has to offer all year around," he said.
Lawati explained that the hotel is being constructed according to the globally recognised LEED certification requirements and this demonstrates the project's environmental and energy efficient features. It will be one of Oman's first environment-friendly buildings.
Omran has also worked very closely with the community and local schools to maintain the fragility of Jebel Akhdar ecosystem through an anti-littering campaign to promote environmentally friendly behaviour in addition to planting of olive trees.
