Iraq is evaluating the construction of four power-generation plants in Mosul at a cost of $1 billion, a senior official told Zawya. Each plant will have the capacity to produce 1,400 mega watts and companies from the US, China, Korea and the UAE have expressed interest in bidding for their construction, Salar Muhammad Ameen, deputy chairman of Iraq's National Investment Commission, said.
The power ministry will announce the bid winners in December 2012, and the four plants will join the power grid in 2015, Ameen said. Iraq wants to increase total power capacity to 21,980 MW by the end of 2014, he said.
