The Follow up Committee of Initiatives of UAE President has approved awarding two contracts for the construction of the Ras Al Khaimah ring road and phase 1 of Khor Fakkan western ring road at a total cost of AED 435 million. The projects are being implemented in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the following up of Gen. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Committee, headed by Deputy Presidential Affairs Minister Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, was briefed about the two projects by the technical subcommittee overseeing progress of the projects being implemented under the initiatives.
The AED 398 million Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road is a 32 kilometer arterial extension of the proposed Umm Al Qaiwain express highway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2 years. The road will have 3 lanes in each direction, separated by a 12-meter wide median barrier that could be used in the future to add a fourth lane both directions.
The 4-kilomter Khor Fakkan western ring road will serve as an alternative to vehicles going to and from Khor Fakkan Port and other cities in the country.
The AED 35 million road will have two fully lit lanes in each direction.
