Many economists in Iraq still see the importance that the government should intensify its efforts to overcome the obstacles that stand without progress in the development of the electricity system in the country, and they see the need in the short term, they stress the importance of providing power to restore life to dozens of industrial projects, especially those belonging to the private sector, and stresses that involved the provision of electricity needed to use the expertise of major international companies specialized in the field of energy, so as to possess extensive experience and long in the reconstruction and the establishment of large plants.
“Al-Taji” station relies in its techniques on GE Global, entered into commercial operation to be the new terminal, which begins production of electricity in Baghdad. These steps of efforts enable the Ministry of electricity to meet the growing and urgent needs in the country.
According to reports (Al-Sabah) received a copy of it, that the General Electric provided Al-Taji station, four gas turbines of the type (6B); is expected to generate the plant electrical energy sufficient to meet the needs of some 160 thousand house, knowing that the company provides technology and the same equipment for two new within the provinces of Hilla and Karbala. It is planned to enter into service stations this year.
President and CEO of the company “General Electric” in the Middle East, Joseph Anis, said “ the plant project of Al- Taji is reflecting commitment of the Iraqi government to provide electric power reliable to ensure that the needs of Iraqi citizens. We have been successful thanks to our close cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity in the provision of better techniques General Electric to produce additional electricity to meet the needs of Baghdad.
He explained that his company is working today to provide the Ministry of Electricity to 56 new gas turbines for use in projects that will enter service during the year 2012, which will add more than 7000 megawatts of electricity needed to support the expansion of energy infrastructure in Iraq, in addition to stimulating the process of future economic growth.
The Minister of Electricity Engineer Karim Aftan Jumaili said that the successful operation of Al- Taji station new order reflects the tireless efforts to provide the necessary electrical power to the Iraqi people with high efficiency and sustainability.
He explained that the project constitutes an important achievement in our relationship established with international companies, including the ‘General Electric’, which is one of the leading companies in the provision of services and technologies to generate energy and form of this relationship a cornerstone of our strategy aimed at strengthening and expanding our infrastructure in the field of energy."
The “GE” has a track record of supporting the needs of Iraq’s infrastructure, including power generation, oil, gas, water treatment, aviation, and health care. The company has installed more than 130 gas turbines in the country.
