Under the patronage of H.E Minister of Energy and Water, Arthur Nazarian, Project Lebanon 2014, the 19th International Construction Trade Exhibition for Lebanon and the Middle East, opened its doors on Tuesday afternoon at Biel. Minister Nazarian inaugurated the show in the presence of the ambassadors of the participating countries and a number of officials, diplomats and dignitaries.
Clearly indicating the rising interest paid by international companies and businessmen to Project Lebanon as an effective tool to strengthen their presence in the Lebanese and regional markets, more than 400 exhibitors participate in this year’s edition; including 150 international companies representing Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, Iran, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
This broad international presence is supported by several international trade bodies , such as the French Agency for the Development of Foreign Trade (UBI France), Italian Trade Commission (ICE), the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade in Luxembourg, the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg , Advantage Austria, the Turkish Ministry of Economy, the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Egypt Expo and Convention Authority (EECA), and others, as well as the embassies of the participating countries, including those of Italy, France, Austria and Egypt.
This year’s edition of “Project Lebanon” is expected to produce a large turnout despite the turbulent circumstances surrounding the region. IFP Group Chairman, Albert Aoun, stated that "Project Lebanon has become a comprehensive and diverse event covering all aspects of trade, economics, and investment, through our continuous efforts aiming to upgrade the exhibition’s quality through events and activities held throughout the show.”
Project Lebanon 2014 will run concurrently with the 4th International Trade Exhibition for Power Generation, Electricity, HVAC, Alternative Energy, Water and Environmental Technologies, “Energy Lebanon 2014”, and the Third International Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability and Clean Energy, “EcOrient 2014”, which takes place over a period of two days in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCI).
EcOrient 2014
EcOrient, The Third International Conference for Environmental Technologies, Sustainability & Clean Energy, which will be held in partnership with the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), will be inaugurated by H.E the Minister of Environment, Mohamad Al-Machnouk on the 4th of June.
Over the period of two days, 6 working sessions will be held with the participation of more than 30 speakers from experts representing major environmental organizations, and leading institutions in the field of clean and alternative energy, to representatives of scientific institutes and research institutions of environmental studies.
The conference is supported by a number of prominent local and regional institutions, led by the Ministry of Environment, the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut, the Lebanese Solar Energy Society (LSES), the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC), the Lebanon Green Building Council (LGBC), the Lebanese ASHRAE Chapter, the Arab Sustainability Association, as well as the CES-MED Program.
Furthermore, the European Union backed “Cleaner Energy Saving Mediterranean Cities” (CES-MED) project has declared an initiative to encourage the heads and members from various municipalities in Lebanon to attend the conference by covering their transportation and registration costs.
Syrian Businessmen Forum
New this year is the "Syrian Businessmen Forum” which will be held from 4 to 6 June, featuring in the first day a special panel exclusively attended by a select group of Syrian, Arab and foreign business leaders and investors. Speaking at the panel will be Mr. Abdullah Dardari, Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) at the United Nations' Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). From his position, Mr. Dardari currently oversees the "National Agenda for the future of Syria" launched by ESCWA to assess the needs of development in Syria.
The forum aims to accompany international efforts preparing for the development of Syria, and provide an overarching framework that brings together Syrian businessmen with their counterparts from the region and the world to discuss the options and capabilities available to put into effect operational plans for the development in Syria , and cultivate a network of relationships and partnerships between Syrian businessmen themselves , as well as international and regional partners , while strengthening the capabilities of these networks in various areas of profession so that they are able to participate actively and effectively in the anticipated stages of development. This will take place through a series of bilateral meetings between the leaders of the Syrian business community, representatives of companies, diplomatic and trade delegations, as well as regional and international organizations participating in Project Lebanon.
